About 2 Player Games
Playing online games alone is always nice, but with a friend is much better! 2-player games are perfect for spending time with friends or dear ones and challenging your skills together.
They can also take different forms. In some, you must work as partners to defeat all the enemies or to solve the puzzling obstacles. Fireboy and Watergirl 1: Forest Temple is a good example of such a game. The two friends must help each other in order to open paths and activate lifts to climb up the map to the doors that lead them to the next level.
In other, your friendship takes the shape of a friendly competition that will showcase who has the best skills. A classic game of such type is Master Chess, but there are many more. If you two are into cars and speed, a racing game such as Grand Extreme Racing or Night City Racing might be what you are looking for.
If you enjoy a more “deadly” competition, why not try a battle game? You can try to shoot each other in Stickman Temple Duel, for example, or try something more primitive and swing swords and fists alike in a game of Stick Warrior Hero Battle.
These are just a few examples of the many options that you can find in this category of 2-player games. The truth is that many different game genres offer the opportunity to challenge a friend or cooperate.
Fighting games
Punches, kicks, hooks, powerful attacks, and even random brandishing of objects - everything is valid in this game genre so long as you defeat your opponent.
Fighting games were among the first to offer a mode that allowed the inclusion of a second player, which makes sense since they have the perfect setup for it. The classic ones that put you and your opponents face to face in an arena have been a favorite of many friends for decades now. Games like Shadow Fighters: Hero Duel turn friends into enemies, using their best martial arts moves to try to knock the other down.
In this collection, you will find plenty of challenges to find who is the stronger player, you or your friend.
Car games
Racing to victory is always exciting, but when one of the other opponents is your friend, victory has a sweeter taste.
In this collection you will find plenty of 2-player car games that will take you and your buddy down to the toughest racetracks of the world for a thrilling race or that will turn you into rebels, speeding and drifting through the city streets, like in the game Two Punk Racing. Get ready and rev up the engines!
And if you are having trouble finding new games to try, you can check our collection of Car Games or our collection of Racing Games, which also includes bike games.
Arcade games
2-player games are often competitive, but they can also be cooperative. Arcade games are a perfect example. In many of these games, both players have to work together to solve challenges, overcome traps, explore maps, and defeat enemies.
For example, in the game Rescue Rangers or any of the Fireboy & Watergirl Games, it is impossible to win playing alone. The only way for players to turn them into single-player games is by taking turns playing with the different characters.
Basketball games
Trying to see who can score more hoops is a common challenge between friends who also happen to be basketball fans. At home or in a court, they will be competing for the highest score and the longest consecutive strike of hoops.
If the weather doesn’t allow it or if a basketball hoop is not available, don’t worry. You and your friend can continue your competition online. Both here and in our collection of Basketball Games you will find plenty of unique and classic challenges to put you two to the test. And if you get tired of playing the same games or if you are looking for new ones to try on, make sure to also check our collection of 2 Player Sports Games or 2 Player Soccer Games.
Tips to enjoy 2-player games
1. Get comfortable
Depending on the game, players may need to share a keyboard or each can play on their own devices. In the latter case, the players often have a single code or an account that allows them to join the same game at the same time, even if they are in different locations.
In both cases, it is important to be comfortable to enjoy the experience, but more so if you are sharing a keyboard. You both need to be relaxed and ensure that you have enough space to move without shoving the other while doing it. Otherwise, accusations of sabotage may start flying.
2. Fun over winning
Games are intended for fun. Even those that promote competition between the players, do it so in an entertaining context that is supposed to be restricted. Friendships should come unscattered or at least reinforced after a game.
No one likes to lose in a game, but still, losing a friend over it should be out of the question.
How to play 2-player games
There are many types of games, each with its own goal, rules, gameplay, and controls. You can find all the necessary information either within the game before the challenge starts or in the text box below the game screen.
That being said, most 2-player games are played on one single keyboard. Traditionally, one player takes the right side of the keyboard and the direction keys while the other player plays on the left with the WASD keys combination.
However, some may require the use of the mouse for some functions while others discard the keyboard altogether and require only a touchscreen or the mouse.
